Gee, I don't feel so wierd anymore. (Actually, I never did). And does this resurgence in typewriter popularity and usage mean that some classic machines will be a)harder to find, and b)more expensive? 'Cos I hate it when that happens. Reminds me of that big Art Deco mania that occurred in the '80s. Yeah, I started that one. Thanks for the link! Good to see that they're still being used, and hopefully, they'll all wind up again on eBay in twenty years so that we all can have another crack at bidding on them.
Nice article, although it seems a mild effort; nothing as energizing as the NYTimes one last year. He claims typewriters "are taking the country by storm" and could only find two people to interview?
"USA Today" is a light-reading newspaper, usually given to you for free when you stay at a hotel. This could be considered in-depth journalism for them!
In all, not a bad article. Might be time to prep some machines for eBay to fuel the storm... :-)
The article is great and it only re-enforces the fact that all of us are "ahead of the curve" so to speak. We know that typewriters are not a fad, but to the rest of the world unfortunately it is just another hipster fad. This same "hipster" crowd loves the juxtaposition of their precious iPads/iPod/iPhones next to a cool vintage machine. It is mostly for them to look cool and have a conversation piece. What will happen when the fad wears out for them?
Thanks for posting this - good story!

It's good to know that typewriters are getting media exposure!
ReplyDeleteMissed that one, thanks for sharing.
ReplyDelete"Typewriters are a wonderful marriage of machine-era technology and cutting period aesthetics" -- I couldn't agree more.
ReplyDeleteWait, that ought to be "cutting edge"
ReplyDeleteIt's raining typewriters here in Phoenix! However, real rain is a little harder to come by.
