Virtual Type-In?

Hello Typosphere, long time no post.

I've been fiddling around with Google+ (a.k.a., Google's response to Facebook.) I've found a number of you over there already, but it's still pretty quiet. One feature the Google folks have built in, though, is an easy way to set up a group videoconference (a "Hangout" in Google parlance.) It's all very high-tech and magical.

Anyone in the 'sphere willing to give this a try and go for a virtual type-in? I can invite people if I have an email address, and am happy to do so if folks are so inclined. Or maybe I should stop compensating and just move up to the Seattle area, which appears to be the spiritual hub of U.S. typecasters.

A virtual type-in sounds very tempting, but I couldn't stand Facebook and don't want to get roped into another social network.

Maybe we can get you on-line with an actual type in on the 30th!

Or you could just move, like all the cool kids.

Not quite fully up to speed on G+ but I'm on there. Haven't a clue how to add people to my 'circle' (reminds me of Robert DeNiro's 'circle of trust' in Meet the Fokker :-))but if you can find me, I'm bowkerrob@gmail.com

PS: Full sympathies with Richard and his facebook aversion!

@Richard: I can understand the annoyance. I've kept my own FB profile low-key and still have to bounce in to block a lot of the nonsense. I find it a good tool for keeping in touch with far-flung family and friends, though. It will be interesting to see what Google makes of their service.

@Mr. Speegle, that's an excellent idea. Make it so! If someone has a laptop and an Internet connection, that is. Someone on your end would need to start a "Hangout" and make it visible to that intersection of people in Google+ and the Typosphere. I'd be willing to share my ugly mug at your event.

@Rob: I've found you now (no thanks to +) and you've been circled.

I'm not on there but I always live-blog from type-ins if possible. I'll have the netbook on the 30th if a location is ever decided upon.

The whole thing sort of terrifies me, honestly. My Technological Absorbtion Metabolism is quite a bit slower than y'all's. Poke me again around - say - 2020 (is that when we are all scheduled for our electro-cerebral implants?).

@Notagain, if you want an invite, I'm happy to throw one your way. I need an email to do it: you can send to me at mpclemens at gmail dotcom.

Great idea. I would have joined without a second thought but I too have a strong allergic reaction to Facebook.

@Gary, took me a moment to figure out where I'd read your name before. Shows how badly I pay attention to Life In General. (All: Gary is part of the typewriter documentary team.)

OK, Washingtonians, let's make this happen on the 30th. You're already hauling a typewriter, what's a measly laptop beyond that? Also: probably need a ritual to welcome Mr. Speegle into the Nexus of Typospheric Influence. I'm not sure what you guys do up there -- maybe a baptism in coffee, or toss a fish at him Pike Market-style.

Okay, Those of you in the Typosphere who lack a Google+ invite and want to be a part of this wacky frontier experiment, please make your (suitably obfuscated but still human-readable) email known here and one of us who've already been assimilated by the Borg will be happy to shoot you an invite.

Let's see if we can bring down the Google servers on the 30th with worldwide type-in attendance!

I have to admit I'm leery of joining another social network to connect with "friends" I already "friended" on facebook years ago.

But! The prospect of using Google+ exclusively for my typosphere friends is intriguing, since I failed so miserably at remaining interested in Twitter.

So - I have added as many of you as I could find to my Circles, and I look forward to learning how we can use this new tool for virtual type-ins and the like. Not sure how it would work out with time differences and such, but we can work out the details later.

I would dearly love to be included in my first type-in (virtual counts, right?) If someone can + me, that is. burgwinkel is the name, and gmail is the domain.
